I visited Jeju island over 15 years ago. The only impression I got was it’s very green there and we had some chicken ginseng soup.
What will be like with dreamtrips? I was eager to experience. And this time I also invited one of my best friends to come along, so 3 of us, my daughter, my friend and myself.
The flight from Beijing to Jeju island was 2.5 hours. Due to the delayed flight, we just missed one pick up bus just left. So we took the taxi to hotel – Maison Glad, only 4400 won (about 4 dollars), so not much a spend.
The hotel is really nice, I liked the feel – simple, modern with style. Of course, the welcome booth was there, we had a seamless check-in, got the room card, and our gift – the diary book, which I really wanted a new one. Felt so lucky! Lol
We had some time before the dinner, so went out for a walk and a bit of snacks.
The welcome dinner was in the separate function room connecting with the buffet restaurant, it was pretty. And the dinner was WOW! I was quite impressed by the variety and taste of all the food, the environment and everything. My friend is having birthday this month, when the host invited all the birthday month people to the front, I told her to go “I have got you covered.” She was a bit surprised but gladly came forward. They got a pair of sunglasses as the gift as well as the cake ritual. Although it’s not an expensive sunglasses, but the whole ceremony was really heart warming, especially for kids, they love to be surrounded by cakes, for sure.
The breakfast can be chosen to have in two restaurants, one is buffet style, one is Korean style, we tried both in different days, all very good.
Ok, now about the play day.
First stop, we came to the Nine Rituals Village and had a natural dyeing lesson. It wasn’t a complex process, but felt magical. You really saw the color changing in the wind while waiting for it getting dry… going through 8 times washing was time consuming but took away most residual coloring, and made sure it won’t ruin anything that you put the cloth on. Each of us got one piece of handkerchief to try, and kept it as a souvenir. Great experience.
Then we visited a nice temple, climbed to certain height and drank that ‘long gevity’ water…
Lunch was at the local seafood hotpot restaurant and we ate the live abalones. Not giving the ‘wow’ feeling, but nice taste.
Then we jumped on the pleasure boat to tour the Seogwipo part of the sea, as me and my friend both had sort of seasickness, we didn’t enjoy too much.
After the boat we headed to Oedolgae rock area, where the famous drama “Dae Jang Geum ” was shot. We bought some famous local orange and strolled around to rest. Everyone took the photos with the standee of the main character from the show. Oh well, it’s kinda of something you need to do.
Next, Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff, really reminded me of the Great Ocean Road in Melbourne, Australia. Nice rocks, great formation. Quite a lot of tourists here.
Dinner was served at another famous local restaurant, barbecue pork. A lot of food,
